Safeguarding Adults Policy

AURA Care – Norfolk, United Kingdom
Effective Date: September 2025

At AURA Care, we are fully committed to safeguarding the health, well-being, dignity, and human rights of adults at risk. This policy outlines our approach to preventing and responding to abuse, neglect, or exploitation of individuals receiving care within their own homes. It is in line with the Care Act 2014, the Human Rights Act 1998, and guidance from the Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board.

We recognise that some adults—due to age, illness, disability, or social circumstances—may be at increased risk of harm. Safeguarding means protecting their right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect, while respecting their choices and independence. AURA Care promotes a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abuse, including physical, emotional, financial, sexual, discriminatory, psychological, and organisational abuse, as well as self-neglect and acts of omission.

All staff at AURA Care receive mandatory safeguarding training during induction and at regular intervals thereafter. This includes recognising the signs of abuse, knowing how to raise concerns, and understanding how to work within the six principles of adult safeguarding:

  1. Empowerment – supporting individuals to make their own decisions

  2. Prevention – acting before harm occurs

  3. Proportionality – taking the least intrusive, appropriate response

  4. Protection – providing support and representation for those in need

  5. Partnership – working with local authorities and agencies

  6. Accountability – transparency in safeguarding practices

Any safeguarding concerns, suspicions, or disclosures—no matter how small—must be reported immediately to the AURA Care Safeguarding Lead. We will act promptly and in collaboration with the appropriate authorities, including Norfolk Adult Social Services, the police, and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), as necessary. All concerns will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality, in accordance with data protection laws and our Duty of Candour obligations.

We understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We encourage clients, carers, families, and members of the public to raise any concerns they may have. Reports can be made anonymously, and whistleblowers will be protected under our Whistleblowing Policy.

AURA Care regularly audits its safeguarding processes and updates this policy to reflect changes in legislation, guidance, and best practice. Our goal is to foster a culture of vigilance, respect, and proactive safeguarding—ensuring that every adult in our care feels safe, heard, and protected.
